A swimming pool is a place where you tend to spend a good amount of time exercising or simply relaxing. Any dirt, impurity or pollution in the pool will have a good chance of infecting you and can give rise to a host of skin allergies and other disorders. There are a few minor problems you can take care of yourself though all major issues need be professionally tackled by a swimming pool services.

Problems caused by dirty pool water

There could be a variety of reasons for dirty looking water such as algae growth, heavy rainfall, lack of sunlight exposure, micro organism proliferation, underuse of the pool, low filtration, poor maintenance and build up of oils and lotions used by you and other users of your swimming pools.

If contaminated water comes in frequent contact with your body there is a high chance of skin, ear, and eye and stomach infection. Also, droppings of birds and animals near your swimming pool can give rise to bad infections.

You should fence the pool properly for pool safety and install a good quality filtration system, preferably sand, diatomaceous earth or cartridge filters.

Steps to a cleaner and fresher pool

You can take is to test the swimming pool water body for calcium hardness, combined chlorine, PH and alkalinity. Out of these 4 elements Ph misbalance and calcium hardness contribute significantly to the muddy/cloudy appearance of water.

If you find that there is a problem with any of the 4 elements in terms of acceptable levels, adjust the chemical balance and run your pool filtration system for a minimum of 18 hours before retesting the pool water. The acceptable levels of various chemicals are as follows. Free chlorine levels should be the same as total chlorine level (1ppm-3ppm). The ph level should be slightly alkaline i.e., 7.2-7.6, total alkalinity levels should be between 90 ppm-120 ppm and calcium hardness should be between 200-350 ppm.

If you see that you are unable to maintain the chemical balance even after a 24 hour run with your pool filtration system, you need to contact expert swimming pool service immediately.

If on retesting, all chemicals are found to be in the acceptable range, the cloudiness is probably due to the suspension of debris in your pool water. Clean your filter system thoroughly with stringent adherence to the manufacturer’s instructions. Also, run the filter system for another 24 hours.

If the cloudiness persists add a commercial clarifier to your pool water and continue filtering till the water resumes a clear sparkling appearance.

If you still see traces of cloudiness, maybe you should think of using a stronger clarifier or more amount of clarifier. The thumb rule is to restrict the uses of clarifier to a maximum of additional two times in 1 week.

If things still stubbornly refuse to improve, consider using a floc (this will drop suspended debris to the pool floor where you can vacuum it). It’s best not to go for DIY at this stage and call in a professional swimming pool service.

Other than having a clean pool, it is also important to have a safe pool. Pool fence inspections Brisbane will be able to assist you in making sure that standard set by the government is followed by your private pool.
